A BuzzFeed News article, "A Court Fight Over A Seized Jewish Library Could Deepen The US-Russia Divide," by Zoe Tillman, on Russia's refusal to comply with a U.S. court order to return a collection of Jewish texts seized in the early 20th century contains quotes from Rothwell Figg partner Steven Lieberman, a lead lawyer for Chabad-Lubavitch.

In 2013, a U.S. judge ordered the Russian government to pay $50,000 for each day that it defied the order to return the Jewish religious texts to Chabad-Lubavitch, a movement within Judaism that dates back to the 18th century. While Russia now owes an estimated $82.3 million, there is no sign they plan to pay or return the collection.

The case has been dormant for two years, but Steven and the group seeking the return of the collection has signaled it may move to try to claim Russian assets to satisfy the sanctions and place new pressure on Russia to return the collection. The group has been tracking down assets and has issued subpoenas to U.S. financial institutions.

Steven is quoted as saying: "We've received information from several of those entities that they have significant Russian Federation assets and we're pursuing that."
